Evinrude tilt ram repair

Well having spent weeks getting the rib ready for whispers round the island trip, I got 200 mtrs before the tilt ram failed. It jammed with the engine in such a position as to make any progress above 5knts impossible.
Recovered the boat and after some persuasion managed to get it home.
The tilt ram is bent and needs replacing.
Question is does anyone know where to get one without having to take out a second mortgage? It's for a 150 ficht.
Question 2, the manual states you need a special tool to remove a cap that tops the ram cylinder.
It's a pin wrench the same dimensions as used on angle grinders but I've already bent my existing wrench - the cap is torqued too highly to get it off, anyone know an alternative, especially for correct torquing on reassembly?
Thanks for any help

Wow. What happened?

I would start phoning round the usual suspects. I do wonder though if the ram is bent, what else is gubbed in there? For the cost of a replacement (used) unit, it may save you opening a proverbial can of worms.... A lot of places would sell me huge lumps of scrap 'coz it was cheaper for them to post the extra mass than waste time dismantling it.....

Places that helped me in no particular order

DA Marine (Davie on here)
MJ Marine (Near the Humber bridge)
A place near Newport in Wales (anyone like to help with a name? - big shed with a mezanine floor full of dead engines)
Some place on the south coast near Littlehampton - advertise on Ebay a lot.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Not quite sure how it happened which is giving some some concern. Simply buying a replacement ram/rod might not solve anything.
Finding a scrap engine sounds like a much better idea

After talking to the local main stealer who wanted £530 + VAT for a bit of stainless with a thread on one end, I managed to find a NOS spare Ram for £150.
Think it might be really usefull to find a few outboard breakers for future reference.
Anyone know any other good ones?
