A rectifier changes your AC current (coming from your charge coil under flywheel) into DC. The DC current coming out of the rectifier is rough, suitable for battery charging, this current is usually tidied up by a regulator.

Some rectifiers are regulated so the output is clean and can be used for more delicate electronics etc.

I don't know what type you have there, I suspect its unregulated.

Thanks A1an. I think this one is not a regulator, and as I understand since I want it to feed chart plotter/echosounder it has to be regulated. Found this one today:

I think it should do the work.
How about my coil? if there is no voltage reading is it busted? or does it have to be in the circuit to work? (forgive me if it is a silly question but my knowledge about electricity is very much theoretical)
How to test it?

Are you testing it on AC or DC? Remember its an AC output.

Did you buy that reg? I might have one lying about.

I might have been testing it on dc so must do it again on ac (saturday). No I haven't bought it yet, if you want to get rid of it we can make a deal

continuing the thread I've decided to convert the OM to electric start. Managed to buy flywheel and solenoid already, I cant find the starter motor and the bracket. They seem to be kind of a rarity. Can anyone help? where to look for it or at least if you have similar engine with the starter could you please make few photos of a/m? I'd really appreciate it.
