Exhaust system 6LPA

GOOD MORNING - I am replacing a GM V8 Diesel engine in my RIB with a Yanmar 6LPA - STP - the exhaust went directly out of the transom with a flap valve of around 100mm diameter.

I have a choice to do the same for the Yanmar (but move the fitting as exhaust is on a different side of the engine) or take it to the Bravo drive etc

I am interested hearing opinions from experienced owners/engineers about the ideas, and any recommendations on where to purchase the parts including the mixing elbow.

Thanks in advance

Its a matter of personal choice, some say they spool up quicker straight out the transom but I'm not sure how true that is, allthough they are a bit laggy. They do run a little quieter at lower speeds out the drive . The deciding factor might be the availability of used parts as I'm pretty sure the correct yanmar to bravo elbow is crazy expensive, something like £2k for the lower & you may need a difrent riser elbow depending what you have .A mercruiser diesel elbow wont clear the belhousing it has to be the yanmar one

Mine went straight out the transom and seems the easiest option - also makes a good noise :-).

If you haven't already got the riser and wet elbow I'd just buy new from stainless ones from HDI Marine (Repower Marine in the UK) rather than risk second hand (unless very cheap), as they do degrade - my dry riser sheered the mating flange going across Christhchurch Bay a couple of years ago after many years service. I replaced both with new HDI units which seemed nicely made, something like £300-400 each.

Thank you both for these ideas. I like the idea of a new stainless unit ...
