I will find out more when I meet the seller on Friday morning, it does come with paperwork so I don't doubt the seller. He is into jet skis etc, and from what he said the original purchaser couldn't afford to pay for a job and so was in a position where he had to offer something as payment.

Well it looks like you got a bargain anyway, as these engines cost over £1500 to buy new.

It's highly unlikely that anybody will come knocking on your door asking if you are a "commercial user".

I've got one of these and contrary to what I was told before I bought it, the engine is happy to troll along the canal at 2-4mph without oiling up, and it makes a lot less noise than my old Mariner 4-stroke 6hp.
Also it vibrates less through the tiller, I guess being a twin cylinder helps, plus the power head is rubber mounted.
At higher speeds it will push my Zodiac SIB to over 20mph with two people on board, with hardly even a pause while it "gets out of the hole" at 6mph.
It's also no heavier than the Mariner so is easy to carry, and can be stored at any angle.

So overall a superb little engine.

Thanks for that, it sounds like its exactly what I need as my boating is similar to yours.

It moves faster than I expected 2 up!

The speed does depend on your boat, my Zodiac 285s has a solid floor with a V-keel and it does plane easily, it would achieve 14-15mph two up with the Mariner 6hp on it.

As already stated you do need to run in the Tohatsu on a 25/1 premix and it will smoke like a tramp steamer during this time. But it's only for the first 10 hours then you can change the premix to 50/1 and it then produces a lot less smoke.

It was a bit embarrasing on the canal tbh leaving a fog of two stroke smoke behind us, I guess that's one of the reasons why these engines were banned.

But once run in it's a lot better.

Cheers, I grew up with a 12' fibreglass tub with a 5 horse seagull, so I know all about leaving a trail of smoke and a pretty rainbow in the water behind me..!

Whilst its a pain running it in, at least I know it's been done properly etc

The seller phoned me today and said that he had picked up the original toolkit, I will post back tomorrow when it's in my dining room!

Nice motor I got a long shaft last autumn as an aux but then couldn't resist buying a cheap SIB great fun. Enjoy.

P.S. Interesting photos I didn't realise that Wookeys actually existed

You don't need much choke on the Tohatsu. As soon as it starts push it in almost all the way.
