Yeah, forgot to mention I totally see the idea, and that it is going to happen. Does that go for the filter as well? I take it do.

Great! Thanks, good to know!
Is it perhaps an idea to flush it with kerosine/diesel, between old and new oil - like in a car to get the gunk out. And in this case to get particles out.
How about gear oil?

Do not flush, just refill with correct oil.

As Alan says no need it's not like the old days plus they recommend oil change every 100 hours it's still pretty clean being that frequent

Does it Def invalidate warranty - but have confidence in the product.
I have F150 2016, installed professionally, 20hr Service then I’ve been informed unless winterised properly warranty invalidated. Two seasons old has only 85 hours but has had two full services at winterisation.
What should be done if this isn’t correct ?

Surely not winterising doesn't invalidate the warranty why would you winterise if your using it year round?

Use it year round ha - unfortunately it gets wrapped up and put in storage - it invalidates insurance if not off water by end of October

I'd imagine the service interval will be 100 hours or annually so a service at layup isn't an extra cost in reality assuming that's the only service it gets?

The yamaha website states servicing needs to be done by a yamaha dealer, that may include the PDI. This is a link to the EU one but it defaults to my IP so i get the UK, you might see something different if you goto your own one.
https://www.yamaha-motor.eu/uk/campa...-warranty.aspx
BTW if you have it in writing from your local dealer and something goes wrong after you service or PDI it then yamaha may tell you take it up with your dealer and you have no warranty......been there and done that with an outboard. You need it in writing from Yamaha in your country or whoever honours the warranty, not the dealer.
Follow exact what your warranty book says though and you can't go wrong.

I suspect the requirement for dealer servicing is for the extra 2 years over the standard warranty. There was a European directive several years ago which forced motor manufacturers to honour warranty on vehicles serviced to schedule by none dealers. I suspect this is also the case with outboards (but I'm not sure so worth checking). My take on the wording on that offer is that to get the extra 2 years you need dealer servicing, I suspect the standard 3 year warranty would stand as long as it was serviced to schedule
Personally I'd rather forsake the 2 years warranty for the cost of the servicing most warranty items occur in the initial use period. Cars tend to have more faults in the first year or two than they do in the years after untill they hit the age where things are wearing out which aren't covered by warranty anyway.
Obviously this is all worth checking but I suspect it's a clever ploy by yamaha to keep servicing in house

Just a thought... If you're being offered it new in the original box and you've got to commission yourself, it isn't a scam is it?

Just hope the model code is wrong. If no T in the model number indicates it manual tilt.

I can get in writing, that they will cover full 3 year warranty if I do PID, 20-100-200-300hr service myself if done with original Yamaha parts. They even provide the oil and filter for PID and 20hr.
I live some distance with toll and crap from the dealer, so just transportation cost are 2500DKR/service plus.. the service at about 4000DKR. So they will agree to my terms, or I’m backing out.
It’s services - not refitting of a plasma cylinder wall or a ECM reprogramming. On my Merc I had a voltage rectifier and sensor blow up, fixed that. Not too worried.

I do not HAVE to service it myself. I freaking WANT to. Save some money - spend it on fuel HA! It’s no scam.

I'd make sure that you use the correct Yamaha branded oil. Not because it's any better than any other oil of the same grade and specification but because it "may" have chemical markers in it which identify the oil in the event of a failure claimed under warranty.
