Foward gear noise

Hi I have a 1991 mercury 25 hp outboard motor I recently just replaced the water pump/impeller on. My questions are when the motor is off and in neutral I can spin the propeller forward and backwards with no problem, when I put the motor in the forward gear and spin the propeller forward there is a clicking type noise heard from within. When I put it in reverse the propeller seems very hard to turn, my main concern is the clicking type noise when I put in forward is this normal I haven't heard this noise before

I have a mercury 40, and it is the same, mine works perfectly so I don't think you have a problem...

it is supposed to do that , in fwd the theory is that you hit something with the prop the prop ratchets and no damage is done, that clicking sound in fwd is the gear ratcheting

Might want to read the other replies before you make an arse out of yourself.

How does it "look to you" at all without pics?

Its normal, the noise is the gears jumping over the dogs on the clutch.
