I've used blue Hylomar. Not designed for constant immersion IIRC, but never caused a problem on mine.

Cheers guys.

There was a hopeless thin gasket in there which had cracked and some semi liquid hermatite.

Made a 3mm insertion rubber gasket and sealed both sides with Hylomar. Looks proper, fingers crossed.

Best check blue Hylomar isn't fuel soluble. I think it is.

If the gasket you made is ok, you won't need it anyway.

Thats what I use. Made by Stagg, lots of nasty chemicals in it. Finding it in kernow may be a bit hard though.

As Nos says, your new rubber gasket should do the job on its own.

Red Hermetite is the sealant to use in a petrol environment.

It wouldn't be a spin to the Scillies if Jim didn't have 5 gallons of petrol slopping around the deck.

I replaced my rubber sender gasket with a cork/nitrile or cork/butyl (can't remember which) and it has been fine. No selant needed. The rubber one that came on La Frette was mishapen and pretty poor quality. The blue Hylomar was for the fuel barbs on the filter.

+2 for wellseal. Anything that smells that bad and is that sticky and brown must be good!

Seriously, buy a tube and you will never use Hylomar again. Excellent gap filling properties - if I remember correctly, applied properly to both faces it will take up something like 0.7mm! Also, if used in an engine it will melt slightly every time it's run and re-make the joint, but is completely immiscible in oil. If you spill or over-apply simply wipe with thinners.

I am just about to fit a new fuel sender to the plastic tank on my Humber, just wondering what you finally used and how it went??
