Getting outboard engines serviced

We need to replace our RIB and I would like to know which brands of engine are easy for parts and servicing.

The RIB is the tender to our 40' motorboat. I do a lot of the work on our big boat but I don't have time (or inclination) to service outboards and it's proving difficult to get our current outboard - a Suzuki - serviced.

So what brands of outboard are easiest for parts and servicing?

I think it’s all down to geographical pot luck. If you’re based in a heavy boating area, there’s nothing to choose. If you’re remote, then pick a brand that has local support. I have started servicing my own 2 Suzuki engines, I find the parts easy & relatively cheap to source online. I use Dulas boats, they are very competitive & extremely knowledgeable and helpful.

Are you in Plymouth? We use Elite Marine Services down at Turnchapel, our RIB has Suzuki outboards and they don't have a problem with it

tehguy's reply popped up in my emails for some reason and I replied before I realised this is nearly a year old!

Hi - Yes, we are based in Plymouth at the moment. Elite do engineering work on our big boat but are very busy so the RIB is currently at Plymouth Marine Services for a service and change of throttle/gear cables - sadly the screws which retain the remote control box covers have seized so a simple job is going to be expensive :-(
