Good Suzuki dealer needed please.

Can anyone recommend a Suzuki dealer who can assist me as I try to get my Garmin to display engine info.

New Suzuki twin 175's - to - Garmin 750s

Im really only interested in fuel info, the standard revs and trim guages are fine.

But after a bit of reasearch it seems I may (or may not) just need a cable. Its all a bit confusing, so Im quite tempted to pay someone so my head stops hurting

They told me to ring Garmin customer service.........................it should just be a cable, well two, one per engine.

That's sounds correct, just adding this option on Yamaha and raymarine plotter and told this is also just a link cable and will do same by switching screens or putting on face screen all engine revs, fuel etc

So, looks like I just need the Garmin NEMA starter kit then. This should plug into the engine and then the plotter. Garmin told me it should all just plug and play.

Mmmm, we will see.

So all I need to do is figure out where to plug it into the Suzuki, assuming the connectors are compatible, then feed it through from the engine to the plotter - hopefully that will be easy ?

Unless Suzuki have added direct N2K compatibility, you used to need a converter box which Lowrance made. Do a search on here for EP20 and Lowrance or look in the Suzuki accessories catalogue.

Ive been doing a bit of research and it just gets more confusing

Seems that I need the Garmin starter kit - which basically gives you the "network cableing", then I may or may not be able to plug this into the engine. Daft price in the UK - £85+, but about £45 from the states ??

I have to plug it into the diagnostic port on the engine, so the current guages remain working.

But, some connectors may not fit the Suzuki connectors ! Plus, as you say, I may need to have something else to get the engine to talk down the network.

You would thing a new Suzuki would be NEMA 2000 compatible though ?

I will ring another dealer and see if they actually have the answers - dammed if I can find anything on the internet that dosent leave me more confused.

This is basically what you will need. You will then need a basic nmea2000 backbone and power node in the boat as well. One end connected to the enging interface and the other to the plotter. If your plotter has a remote N2K aerial then you will already have a basic N2K network onboard and will probably just need the interface. If you do not have access to a Lowrance plotter then you will need to get the supplier to program the interface for you. This tells it which engine model you have.

Thanks guys - I was getting lost on the internet yesterday.

So, plug the Suzuki interface cable into the diagnositc port in the engine, thereby allowing the existing guages to continue to work, then plug both (one cable per engine) into the Garmin NEMA 2000 starter kit (just one of those), then plug that into the Garmin 750s plotter.

Just what does the Suzuki cable do then ? Why dosent the engine info just flow out of the engine into the plotter, why do you need an interface ?

From what your saying Erin, I need to program the interface with something ? Would a Suzuki dealer do this ? Is this info to tell the plotter stuff like engine size and fuel tank size ?

The interface converts the raw Suzuki data into N2K data. The diagnostic port is designed for the SDS Suzuki software for interrogating the engine. It must have been designed before N2K (J1939) protocols. You need to programme the interface so that it knows what type of engine you have and therefore what the correct data is to convert. You can also label the engines as port and starboard so you don't get them confused on your plotter.

Check out my sketch here on post 6 for simple N2K layout although I forgot to show a power feed T into the backbone.

Never dealt with Suzis, but with twin Etecs you have to use the Etec diagnostic software to assign each engine a unique ID, otherwise each engine just dumps its data onto the network & the network doesn't know what data is coming from which engine, it's akin to devices being given an IP address on a conventional network. Without the unique ID the data gets jumbled up & the display gets nonsensical.

I wonder if that's due to using the suzi-N2k adapters, maybe the adapters appear as unique devices, dunno.
