Handed Propellers

I come from the world of shaft drives.

Regarding Outboards, are the props "handed" - ie Sbrd prop clockwise and Port prop anticlockwise

If handed, do you need to buy a left spinning port outboard or have it modified?

If not handed, the tendancy will be to turn to starboard???

Many larger installations nowadays use counter rotation engines which come with a different gearbox to allow using a lh prop
Many smaller installations run standard rotation without issue.

I thought the 350hp suzis were contra rotating duo prop, maybe the op needs to RTFM

LH Props

Thanks Guys

Forget the Suzies with Duoprops

Ordinary props on a standard twin configuation - are they handed?

Over around 150hp you'll get handed ones, LH rotation on port RH on starboard usually on outboards

Frequently but not always. Counters the prop walk you’d get with more powerful motors. Same outboards different gearboxes.

Yes, for larger outboards on a twin installation the props are handed. Most of the time you will need a left hand gearbox on the left side as generally the bearings are different inside the gearcase.
