help 40 hp mariner

hi
have bought a rib with a 40 hp mariner but looking to find out anY info about the engine and if there is a manual available, numbers on it are 40EL0 6EP L 451981 THE ENGINE HAS AN OIL TANK DOES THIS MEAN I DONT NEED TO ADD OIL TO THE PETROL ? THANKS IN ADVANCE

We used to call it a sanchion 40.just keep the oil tank topped up, when I ran any 2str OBM. I always ran them on a double mix, with no problems. The MOD used a lot of them, as did the RNLI. They are a bit of a bugger to set up timing especially. I used to enjoy working on them, a good reliable unit. Have and stay safe.

What year al? I've tried searching sites with serial number but looks like I need the enigma machine!

This seems to ID it as 1989??

Mariner: 40-55Hp

I've just looked on the brunswick site, it's as fenland error said either an 1989 or 1990

It's okay now as I went on the brunswick site, to get the factory model year, that's the factory site for merc, Mar and many more brand names. The true year would be the year it was registered to the first owner, if it got registered.

Sorry I don't know where you can get a manual. The only thing I would suggest is, make sure it's serial number compatable.
