Take it back to dealer if it is new !! Second hand you've lost out you'll have to be more specific in your checking I always go through everything with fine tooth comb when it comes to purchase of any kind once bitten twice shy how did you get on with set up and sea trial or did you head for lake any pictures

It just puts a dampner on it when you see it these dealers should be checking for this to or may they thought they could get away with it

If you mean the (plastic?) carry handle I guess that could be swapped in minutes so that's all they need to fit. Was it mail order or nearby dealer?

Yes the plastic handle. Mrs got involved lawyer and written to the local dealer who supplied and wants new engine.
Says it's not fit for purpose and says under sales goods act wants a new one.
Ps tried to keep her out as always tougher than me

Well in truth that's such a waste of your time and energy just for a handle. If I was the dealer I'd be very puzzled by that course of action.

Have you had this one out on the water yet?

Nope we have not had it in water bought as new.

Also dealer had it on show in there show room without us being asked , and put it on water.

However kind of agree but Mrs taken over saying how do we know it was not dropped by dealer and what else is wrong as obviously had a impact to break handle.

I am just fed up as new toy not with me and dealer been good so far . I keeping out of it .

Seems a bit ott asking for a new engine and a good way to fall out with the dealer which can only inconvenience yourself finding another.
Fgs its a plastic handle likely a 5 mins job to change.
Highly unlikely you will get a new engine but I bet when you next want something you go to the back of the queue
Gotta be reasonable about things before you wade in with the size nines

Kinda agree.

Pity really as they have been good , only worry is that it has been dropped by dealer and other damage , also if u accept one small repair then in eyes of law have deemed to accept it and u loose most of your customer rights .

I wanted to leave it with them to repair but been over ruled.

My own thought, FWIW, is that you're never going to go boating on a regular basis...

Great friendly supportive forum this !

Thanks for the last few comments really helped.

This engine was probably dropped on transit or while having the pre deliver checked that's why the handle is cracked .. New engines don't just crack handles for np reason. The rest of the engine could be damaged ..

As for not boating much or doing what mrs say all time!! Yes your so right ! NOT. Yes she owns her own law firm and can come into things with big boots etc but that's from experience of situations going wrong.

Once again thanks for your help and wonderful advice .

Unless you happen to live in boating hotspot on the South Coast, one of the first things you learn when you start boating, is that dealers are very few and far between. It’s not like cars where there’s a dealership in every town. It’s very important (imo) to build up a relationship with your dealer going forward. Personally in your situation I would have been the man on the Clapham omnibus (your missus will know him) & given the dealer an opportunity to put things right.
