Yep, that's the long and short of it.
There must be a few tidy used marine safari type rigs available in the States?

I have 2x Humber 10 metre boats one has a pair of Etec 200 the other has a pair of Yamaha 150. The Etec boat goes 7mph faster but uses 38% more fuel. This is fact using the 2 boats for the same job on a daily basis and filling them up every night not what any fuel gauge reads or manufacturer claims.

Engines/performance/size and economy you can choose and tweek (or even swap) to suit particular needs....(which in a Comercial setting may well be different from us Leisure users)
....Buy a Pup of a RIB from the other side of the World...unseen,and untried which may give you ongoing problems and you're Up the Swanny!
ALL the Chinese Ribs I've seen, and friends have owned are and were Crap!..
Considering a Comercial operation in the U.S. With thier Zealous Lawyers and punitive legal system...I'd have thought Going with a well proven product with a decant track record would be a minimum

Yes it's quicker getting on the plane. The amount of days you can actually use the extra speed is minimal though. Its howl off the etecs does your ears in.

You'd need to be looking at 2x200 min. to shift that number of people around efficiently IMO.

no, ... in fact I used twin Honda 115s on a 7.8m alu RIB
I have used twin Hondas 130s, then 115s, then 135s and now a combo 135/150
in fact I think they are all about the same
no, you won't go 30-40 knots ... but right ... the sea state rarely allows it anyway.

8.3 metre rib
Do you need twins, a 350 single could suit and be a cheaper lighter option and possibly more speed. Not sure of your full requirements concerns or budget. Just a thought! I'm looking at a boat at the moment that has a quicker pace with a 300 Suzuki than the optional 2 x 150's but there is much to consider on this one.

OK ... now I've got one that most of you twin 200s will find it hard to believe.
My FIRST 7m 12 passenger RIB was a Zeppelin
and I used twin .............. Thrust 50s! .... that's right fifty
the white - ish RIB here on opening page:
Ocean Explorations Whale Adventures, Tiverton, Nova Scotia, Canada
1995-99 .... they were torqued low for power ... now we we thought we were zooming ... around 17-18 knots ... but she got up on a plane with a load!

That must have been cosy, 12 pax on a 7m. Were they on seats or stood/sat on tubes?

might have been 7.5 ... but yes, we sit on the tubes, so 5-6 along the sides - one or two on seat ahead of console

Knewfie, There are quite a number of well established European rib producers many also very good ones in the UK. Is it price that makes you select a Chinese rib? Have you ever considered a European/UK make or just dismissed them totally without even doing any market research.

Beijing has the highest minimum wage in China...a whopping $2.90 USD/hr.
Tough to compete with that on labor intensive products such as tubesets and fiberglass.
Although my experience so far, Chinese gelcoat is garbage and their polyester resin is okay at best. None of the Chinese boatbuilders I've seen use dye in their MEKP, so it's impossible to tell if the resin was mixed properly or not.

In which case you'd think they could afford to chuck some more money into the layup & quality of materials[emoji57]

Why would they bother?
Everybody buys their stuff anyways, no matter how bad the track record is.
When the name gets bad, they change brand names.
There's maybe 3 competent inflatable factories in all of China.

[emoji106] agreed, the well known SIBs seem to have a decent rep. I've not seen a competent RIB yet either GRP or ally.

Isn't it just a matter of time before they get it right though? I'm thinking Japanese cars of the 70's compared to now
If they can build quality sibs then no reason why given the right quality control they can't make ribs too.
The sensible factory owners will draft in European management and QC people to oversee the low paid workers and then the quality should improve
Time will tell

Made in China is fine (iphones etc), it's made in China by Chinese companies which can raise a few quality and copyright issues.
Chinese motorbikes dissolved after two years when they first appeared, they are getting better slowly.
