How can I learn year of Yamaha 9.9d outboard

2-stroke, thought to be about 8 or 10 years old.

I can see a serial number, and an engine block number: 68200 2Y.
Can I find the year from the serial number somewhere?

This may help: http://www.boats.net/cgi-local/listi...rm&stype=motor. Thanks due to Jizm - found it in a reply from him to a similar question a while ago.

Thanks Louise. Unfortunately the format of my serial number doesn't seem to match up with the table on that site. The motor was bought in Turkey - maybe there's a different numbering scheme there. My serial number plate is laid out like this:

Two lines:
First line: Yamaha 9.9D
2nd line: 682C L 392762

What does yours look like? (Blush)

By looking at pics in various old Yamaha manuals it seems that the serial number was last in this format in 1985. Older than I thought.
