How does my engine sound?

Have some time off work so the boat maintenance is beginning. Have a few thread on the go so any help for the many problems is appreciated.

1984 yamaha 2 stroke 3 cylinder pre mix. New to me engine. First run out was hard to start and wouldn't idle (after a quick carb clean), struggling to find carb rebuild kit.

So I played around with it today. What do you folk think. This is with the mixture screws all set to 2 full turns out. Seems to start easy. Any advice on getting it running nice. I don't have a tacho yet but planning to install one. It seems to shake alot.

Serial number; YAMAHA 80AET 6HO L350123

Compression top; 108, middle; 110, bottom 110

Apart from the idle being a little on the high side it sounds ok.

Sounds like a typical 2-stroke being run on muffs.
They shake quite a bit too!
Can't see/hear anything that would worry me.
You'll find it a lot better in the water.

Good compression. It's amazing what a carb clean and rebuild will do. Often if the engine is running rough, yours doesn't sound rough, possibly a little eratic until it's warmed up is to adjust carb linkages back to factory settings, the air screws and check timing. It's a bit of an art to balance them. Again, you need a manual, otherwise leave it alone.

For parts and rebuild kits try Davie who is on a Ribnet, or https://www.marine-tech.co.uk/parts/ who sell on EBay and have a request form check.

That 1984 6HO part may have been superseded.

The 3 cyl Yamaha is one of the best 2 strokes available in my opinion
