How long to change a cable

Just been quoted 3 hours to change a throttle cable on a ETEC 200 to a commmand throttle on a 7 m rib.
Seems along time was expecting 1.5 hours tops .
Any mechanics who could explain why so long could service it quicker I am sure.
Tim

When you say " command throttle" do you mean to the Icon system, or just a like for like cable swap?

Suppose if its a bitch it could take three hours but it would be unlucky. Couple of hours tops I reckon on your boat.

Yeah to be fair it can take some time to do, getting into the control box, pulling up panels, undoing spiral wrap, running cables back through and putting it all back together again looking like its not been taken apart in the first place!

I could change it in less than 3 hours and that includes getting the ferry across to the island and back again and probably still have time for a beer in the Pier View while waiting for the return ferry!

1.5hrs tops even if they have to take things apart to get into the control box etc and route it under the deck.

My thoughts as well I no times are hard but whacking the hours on a job is taking the pee in my mind.

Awell know marine engineering firm over here used to do that took them 5 hours to service a diesel walk to car collect a filter take to boat , walk to car as forgot oil extractor , walk to car as forgot container for oil , walk to car to get new oil you wonder why they are going bust.

Nice Avatar
