How've I broke it this time?

Connected my steering up and other bits to check everything fits ok in the console before I paint it.

Steering hubs fitted, inserted the cable and turned the wheel until the whole thing was in. Tightened up the top and bottom screws on the back and....I can't turn the wheel either way!
So, undid the screws and turned the wheel, cable comes out nicely, no problems. Try again, same as before and it's locked solid again.

Any ideas?

(this is the same hub and cable that I had on before. Was working ok)

Right am at a loss!
Going of pics on the web I think it's a Ultraflex T85.
It feeds the cable through ok but as soon as it's fitted in it wont turn.
Seized cable?

Did it work ok before you pulled it apart. If it did then its unlikely to be the cable and more likely to be an issue with the assembly.

Yeah it did. But I can't work out how I could have messed up!

Does the cable move with it removed from the engine?

Just nipped out and took the cable out of the hub (haven't got time to try and remove it from the OB) and tried to move the OB by hand. I can't get it to budge! So it looks like it seized somewhere

If it is seized up and it's not the cable (will find out if it's the cable later when I take it off) will it be the steering bracket that's seized?

It might be however for an outboard swivel to sieze it would normally happen over a long period of innactivity (6 months) and even that would only happen due to severe lack of maintenance.

I've been trying to think I'd say the outboard hasn't moved for nearly 2 months. Seems a little too short a time to seize doesn't it. Hoping and praying it's the cable. Fancy baby sitting Chris so I can have a look?

Steering cable is probably rusted to the tilt tube. Take the drag link off and try moving the cable. If you have to hit it with a hammer, take care that you don't ovalise the hole in the end of the cable which the drag link goes through.
