I have aquired a Engine for my rib but know very little about it.
Hello i havs Aquired a engine i believe to be dt85 hp but know very little about it as its quite diffrent to the much smaller engines ive Dabbled in previosly. And ive reas maybe i would need additional controls and gauges as its a larger Engine would these be universal or would they be speciifc parts this engine? What would i need additionaly to run this Engine on my Rib all i have currently is the Engine.
Many thanks

Welcome to the forum.
That's an old engine now (circa 1988-2000).
At the very least you'll need remotes for it, and probably a tacho. I don't know enough about the engine, but would suspect the trim switch would be integrated on the remote, along with the kill-switch.
It looks like it was an auto-lube. The display gauge isn't essential as long as you check the oil reservoir regularly.
This is a useful guide for part numbers and diagrams.

Not saying anything directly, but - this guy joined Sept 19, has an engine with no controls or dials and wants advice.
Just saying, where did this outboard come from?

Probably the local tip, they weren’t much good when new 30 years ago.

I’m interested why you think a DT 30 of that age is any worse than anything from other makers of the same vintage.
All I can think of is their tendency to corrode waterways and snap head bolts if you try to take them apart, but all other makes are the same.
I’d view it as cheap, and light in weight, power to have some cheap fun with.
Nasher.

I like to give people the benefit of the doubt.
It's not like we're giving away trade secrets!

As phantom says they were bottom of the big 4 makers 30 years ago & I doubt they have improved with age.
The ops 85 is an unknown quantity & Needs money spent to find out if & how it runs. Personally i wouldnt spend money on it, I would if it were a yamaha but not a suzuki.
If you have a 30 which is running and behaving then fine keep using it but spending on an unknown one of those is risky to say the least

Interesting that, not sure why I typed DT30, I was talking about Quart's DT85.
I have a DT200EFI and it's a great engine, I've just abused it for far too long.
I'm sorry, but I have to disagree with the view of 80's and 90's Suzuki 2-strokes being rubbish, I've had a few of different sizes, and they've all been peaches.

I take it you didn’t make your living in the 80s/90s repairing them when they’ve rotted out yet again?
