Importing an outboard, vat?

Hi, I have found a Mercury dealer in Jersey that still has some new 2 stroke mercs, am I right in saying I will have to pay VAT at customs for the outboard when it gets shipped to the UK?

Can't see the dealer doing that, I looked on the Customs web site and it looks like they can charge vat on used items as well, does every parcel go through Customs?

This is my first RIB (AVON560 with Merc 90), my old boat was a 3.8M inflatable, when I do go out for a long trip I am going to go out with my mate so he can take his Ribeye RIB

Hardly seems worth it when you can buy a new 3.5 4 stroke for a 100 more, with the benefit of a 5 year warranty.

I reckon a new 2 stroke would only have 1 years warranty, as it's only (officially) available in Europe to commercial users.
