Is their an ulitimate 100 Hp Outboard !!!

Okay,

So whats the best around 100 HP engine. Anything from 90 HP to 135 Hp counts. 2 stroke or 4 stroke. Price is conclusive. And running costs are a major factor.

Old or new I don't care. But at the end of the day 100 HP is 100 HP whether it is 4 stroke or 2 stroke.

What would be good to know what is dependable, reasonably fast and efficient.

Mercury OptiMax 135: six cylinder grunt, good power to weight.

I have to agree with Stu Yamaha we had a 100 four stroke Yamaha on a 560 Avon and did 100s and 100s of hours never missed a beat and the guy who bourght it from us still raves on about how he has not had any probleams,
what ever you buy just keep it well maintained and serviced

Well looking at Suzuki the 140 is actually lighter than the 115/90hp - 186kgs vs 189.

Evinrude ETEC 115 looks quite promising at 170kgs - and it's a V4.

Mercury Optimax 115 is same weight at 170kgs.

Yamaha 4 stroke 100hp is 170kg - their 90hp 2 stroke is only 127kgs and their 115 2 stroke is 167kg.

If weight is going to be a problem on a smaller boat then a 2 stroke 90hp is a lot lighter.

Tough choice at this sort of size - much easier with the bigger engines.

If I was looking to replace the engine on Greyhound, I suspect these 2 would be top of my list (probably a slight bias towards the etec).

Rogue Wave will tell you how much he loves 2 strokes over 4 strokes, and I think that the etecs and the optis are the best all rounders in that respect, plus they sound great at full chat!

The 135 is a good lump

Soozookee 100 V4, 2-stroke. Really smooth and pretty good on juice. It just happens that mine will soon be for sale if anyone's looking to buy one

If its a 4m boat, you'll take off with a 135 merc mariner, nice engine, coughed a bit when not set up right but, be ready to fly my friend you'll need a pilots license, hehe, and u will sink when moored

A 135 on an SR4 I think the only place you would be going fast is the sea bed!!! Biggles is usually a sensible and well reasoned chap so I would assume its for a new project.

Ads,

Yeh its a new project.

The SR4 is all sorted for this year and now I need to look at next years boat. Possibly something with a 100 HP stuck on the back end.

Just getting a feel for what people think.

Personally I like the Yamahas, their again the e tecs look tasty and so do the optimax. Too much choice.

As they say knowledge is power and I'm trying to get some knowledge.
