Jet Ski motors in a RIB?
Hey, does any one know if any manufacturer has put a jet ski motor in a RIB???
The new motors are putting out over 200hp and as I understand it their weight is closer to the weight of a 100hp outboard. It also has the benefit of being a jet and can be mounted inboard. Have any individuals done this? Pros/Cons?

I've wanted to put a jet ski engine and jet into a Flatacraft Force4 for years.
unfortunately somebody beat me to it and advertised it on ebay.
I think Nos put it on here a few months ago.

I think the main idea is a fast retrieval boat for a beach swimmer or sailboarder setting. Here is something else incorporating a jetski powered RIB;

Of course the main point for me is that I've just figured out to to do these direct youtube window links.

Weber Jet Engines
Zodiac and Avon have both come out with Jets using the Weber 104 HP 4 stroke jet. There may be a couple engine units complete, brand new available in Oregon/Washington state that a builder bought and then went out of biz.
Very compact unit designed by Weber Engines in Germany.

BWM Animal jet tenders use honda aquatrax jetski motors (marinised blackbird engine). Go very well, only 3.25m long.

Main problem with the Zodiac Projet and other small jet-ribs --> on flat water, perfect fun and maneuvrability (Zodiac Projet tops out on 38kts), but when it's getting choppier the jet loses it's performance and speed start to fall dramatically! With an outboard engine you don't have that problem. Add up the enormous fuel consumption for such a small boat and the bad maneuvrability at low speeds (because of the jet) and I think you're way better off with a small rib (10/11 ft) with a nice jockey seat and 40hp, unless you're planning on using the boat in swallow water.

We make a jet which is just the opposite of many of the downsides of the lightweight petrol ones, although it is a bit slower, our 6 metre 120hp jet is very economical, very manoeuvrable (with practise!), and has been tested in the Solent in up to and including force 7 conditions (not by choice!), the weight keeps the jet driving at least as much if not more than an equivalent outboard. The other advantages are of course shallow water use, and the safety and fun of a jet - 360 degree crash stop turns are great fun
I believe the small petrol jet boats are good for the market they appeal to - tenders and little fun craft for use in more sheltered areas.

There is also the durajet lower unit for some mdirange powered outboards. The U.S. navy has been using this system for about the last 15-20 years on their 30 and 55 hp outboards. Much safer than a conventional prop system.
