johnson 60 vro help please

this starts great runs great when i stop engine i then sometimes have problems starting it it always smells like its fludded would it be anything to do with the vfo as at present im mixing the oil in the petrol tank anyone got any idears?

if it was mine, i'd through the vro out, put a vac fuel pump on it, clean the carbs, and stay with the premix.
