Johnson BJ90SLEDR 90° or 60° V4?

Any engine nuts out there know whether this engine (1996) is the 90 or 60° version?

Chris

The 60 deg blocks were out in '96,but this one could possibly be one of the last 90 degree models. The 90 deg motor is easy to recognise as the back end of the hood is about 2' wide. The 60 deg block has a much narrower hood (obvious, I suppose!).

Chris
Johnson/Evinrude outboards from 1981 forward uses a two letter code derived from the
word Introduces to establish the model year. See matrix below.

I N T R O D U C E S
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0

Example: 1998 Evinrude 115 = E115TLECS the EC represents 98 or 1998.

I make yours a 1996!

Nick

just read your question again sorry don't know!

I think this is one of the 60° versions as it has the optical ignition sensor which i believe was only fitted to the 60°.

I would have thought someone capable of spotting an Optical Ignition Sensor would be able to tell the difference between 60 and 90 degrees

And this one is of a 60 degree V4.

Is the Optical Ignition Sensor the same as yours?

I can see the huge difference now! although mine is missing the covers that have the Large 'Optical Ignition' sticker on, in my defence.

I have just fitted a new Optical sensor which was the cause of the engine not running (shhh dont tell Osprey_Viper :-))

Martin if you are reading.... if you ever get another boat with a Johnson I would suggest that you give Beaston a wide berth !! They missdiagnosed the fault and then left the engine with several expensive covers missing!!!

Glad you sorted it out in the end.
Did anything else need sorting out, or was it just the sensor?
