Are you planning on having a GPS and other electronics, like a VHF radio, bilge pump, and running lights?
I could fairly easily pull start the 40HP I used to have. Much easier to hit a button and have it start, so I converted it to using a starter motor. We also needed/required a GPS and VHF for safety, along with running lights and a bilge pump, for which I had a removable electronics tower that housed the battery and most electronics.
If you do plan to add in a battery make sure to get a motor that has a charging circuit or at least one that can have a regulator added on.
My preference is for a steering wheel on boats that are trailered and launched from a trailer, as weight is a non issue. That means electric start with electric trim and tilt.
Personally I like this layout below for open space with lots of seating. Might be okay for my hobby of scuba diving if there is enough space on the floor for tank storage.
