Mariner 15 2-stroke tell tale.

Just tried the 2001 Mariner 15 2-stroke I bought yesterday in the test tank and the tell-tale output seems erratic (compared with my 9.8 Tohatsu) but I wonder it it's by design. The Mariner tell-tale outlet is from a hose that comes from the top of the thermostat and the output seems weak when first started then squirts well after a minute ot two.

Do they all do this?

That model does.

Pumps when it needs too once warm then stops till it needs to again. Bloody stupid idea as you are forever panicked when you look over and see nothing!!

My advice take the stat out and it will pumps forever. Will run a little cooler but won't harm it. You can replace the stat with a restrictor washer (like a penny washer with a preset hole in it to slow the flow down) so that it runs at right temp and pumps all the time.

Peter,

Many thanks for that confirmation... does seem daft as it's second nature to keep an eye on the tell-tale and expect to see it all the time. I'll keep the mod you mention in the back of my mind.
