Can anyone help me identify the year of my 2 stroke 15hp mariner

If that chart is US based be careful as they don't always tie up with EU numbers (certainly IIRC for Yam).

I have to say Max I've used that chart for a decade and it's always been correct for the mid grey series of Mariners from the 70s/80s.

Is your serial no plate like the one below Disschord? If you look there is often a second clue. See the letter stamped in the black area to the left of Made in Japan. That's a date code. I have some notes from my old outboards and I know 1980 was S, 1982 was Q and 1986 was J ... they followed through using a letter a year in reverse alphabet order with some letters omitted.

Hi David, no worries - this may only apply to Yam but just wanted to point out that some US sites cannot be relied upon to apply the same data for EU engines etc.

Not sure how that fits in exactly with 1981 but it certainly confirms a motor of very early 1980s or the last year or two of the 70s... which will be the same for info and servicing specs.
