mariner 2 stroke 4 hp kill switch.

Another question (sorry)

my outboard doesn't have a kill switch so I'm looking at buying one, most I see on ebay are universal and vary from just a couple of pounds depending on if I buy from china, hong kong, or uk. all look the same with same description so am I just paying more from the uk just to get it quicker.

and whats the chances that the universal will fit my little outboard engine.

Not sure of exact model of outboard engine as numbers I put in search don't pull anything up.

cheers

with the serial number of the OBM go to your nearest dealer or give turbo a bell they/ he will sort you out. As an aside where is the original stop switch? As they all had them on from new.

The conventional method of killing is to short the LOW TENSION side of the ignition system to ground. No reason that shouldn't work for you.

If you have a push to stop button then it (probably) just needs changed over as thats probably what it does. With out that if you can find the LT wiring (e.g going to points?) and short it while running to the engine block and it kills engine all you need to do is wire the switch in to do the same. all you need is a suitable sized hole to mount it in. Most have a screwed fitting with a nut on the back that holds it into the hole.

I'm sure someone will be along to say quality varies. I think what you are getting is probably partly a price set on UK stock but also for some sources some quality assurance. Watch the cords too - some have a hollow plastic spiral which is weak.

I've bought a chinese one, it had a cord cored spiral and works. (n=1 study!)

Sorry for late reply. been a bit ill.

my motor just has the push stop button, I've ordered a kill switch and landyard from china so I'll see what the quality is like, just couldn't see any difference between them and one's bought from the uk, apart from price and delivery time.

Thanks for the replies chaps
