Mariner 200hp 2 stroke compressor
Hi all, does anyone have a compressor of a Mariner 200hp 2 stroke that is in good or excelent condition?
I think the engine is an 2006 model (I can check).
Please drop me a line if you have.
Thanks
Lee

Not under warranty as it is water damage.

do you mean the whole engine was dropped in the water... or are you saying that Mariner don't think their outboards are intended for use in water?

You must be reading a different post to me, coz i can't see where you read that?
Water damage can be any number of things, but maybe in this case water in the fuel eh?

The engine has NOT been underwater.
There are some salt crystals in the bottom of the engine cover and I have to assume the water somehow ingressed in there.
It looks like it has been drawn up through the air filter and into the compressor.
I am completely MIFFED about this.
The engine was taken in to be checked because of another fault that is REALLY gripping my shit but, this was just a complete kick in the bollocks.
Guys I appreciate the interest but.
DOES ANYONE HAVE A COMPRESSOR OF A 200HP OPTIMAX?
Thanks in advance
Lee

If you have no luck sourcing one at the right price in the UK you could always try importing from the US
Crowley Marine for instance do ship over here - compressor is $805
Probably $100 shipping plus taxes so not sure how this compares
The last time I bought parts from these the $ was 1.98

Had to replace mine recently, best price I could find was from these people - American Marine.
Doubt you will find one second hand, I was struggling to even find a new one, theres a worldwide shortage of stock at the mo.

Lee, the only way anyone would have a 2nd hand one is if the rest of the engine died first - searching here suggests that compressor failure is not that uncommon (there are 3 or 4 reports I recall) but totally irreparable damage is fortunately rare. Sorry I know that doesn't help you source one.

Dirk, you undoubtedly know more about the workings of an Optimax than me - but outboard engines are designed to be used in water. Therefore I would anticipate that avoiding "water damage" caused through routine use of an engine in water (not including immersion or other misuse) would be an essential part of making it fit-for-purpose. In which case I would expect damage caused by water during normal use to be warranted. Whether water "ingested" by the engine through the fuel or air should be covered may be more debatable but I would be arguing that the contamination of fuel is a common occurance and spray is probably unnavoidable and thus an outboard engine getting serious damage from this is not fir-for-purpose so the designers need to either design components robust enough to deal with it or put in adequate filters, separators, sensors and other protections that make it impossible to damage very expensive engine components through the realities of normal usage. I realise I am assuming that the owner is faultless.

Dont want to talk about that, 40hrs on a new optimax and had to have a new injector as some water allegedly in fuel(in a presure tested tank last year)...not covered by warranty which comes as no surprise!
