Mariner 25 hp v 30 hp weight
Hi Team Rib
Anyone know what the weight difference is between a 25 & 30 HP 2 stroke mariner?
Short shafted with tiller control and pull cord start?

Same engine, just a plate behind the carb to restrict the flow.

I know, as did all 2 strokes (for leisure use at least). As the OP said he wanted 2 stroke I'm assuming he's buying used. Had he said he's going new I'm sure he would have advised he's buying commercially, or going 4 stroke!

There used to be 2 versions of the 25hp motor available - one was derived from the 20hp and the other from the 30hp. As uncle al said, one a Merc and the other a Twatsoo.

As far as I know Mercury has stopped producing the USA built 20/25hp 2 stroke and now sell the Mercury/Mariner 25hp as a restricted 30hp and the 30hp as the same engine but no restrictor. As such, no difference in weight IF you are talking about the Japanese (ie Tohatsu) models. Is it a brand new engine or?

So after all this I'm sort of hoping that my 2004 25hp is a mercury engine built in the US and might be able to be upped to 30 if it has a restrictor between the carb & engine ?
I just know I wont be lucky enough for that all to be true though

If it's one of these, then you're out of luck:

Bad luck. Yours is Belgium built. If it does turn out to be up-ratable then don't forget to send down the extra £300 for the extra 5hp
