Mariner 40hp 2 stroke 1999

Hi.
I have this engine on a zodiac futura mk11 with alloy flooring apparently it is 98kg.
The boat really does shift.
But when I want to winterise the boat this is to heavy for me to remove I just can't get it off the transom Even with my son helping.
So should I get some kind of hoist. Like a car engine hoist
Or a smaller but just as powerful engine not as heavy if there is any such thing out there.

As said, cheap enough off ebay etc.
Gumtree also worth a look for one local to you. One for £80 atm but unfortunately it's the other end of the country to to you.
Couple on amazon 500kg lift brand new for £143 delivered.

Yes i think that's the way to go.
I do like this mariner and want it to last me out. I was dreading it falling over and taking me with it.
Boats tucked away at the weekend.
So I will spend the winter cleaning the engine.
Thanks again.

You probably know this already but don't mess about with rope etc trying to lift the engine get the proper lifting eye - usually screw into the middle of the flywheel & are often combined with the flywheel puller. (The one for mine does)

I have this ring on top I presume it's a lifting ring made from solid steel. I routed a water pope through it so will have to re route it . I was thinking I could not trust rope or webbing.
So I will be looking for a chain and hook for the appropriate weight
To go with a folding hoist about a ton lifting ability.
Bad photo apologies

That engine weighs about 75kg not 98kg, I had the same model.
2 of you should lift that no problem

The OP was adding the weight of the aluminium floor and the outboard.

Well unfortunately for me I'm getting on a bit nearer to 70 then 60 and my son is only 17 and a lightweight.
It's not that we probably couldn't lift it if it was on the ground but it is so awkward when its upright. It's getting it over the transom and off again that the problem and not enough grip.
Anyway I'm not doing it if I can make it easier I'm taking the hoist route.

The hoist will come with hook & chain.
These will be more than adequate for the rated lifting weight of the hoist.
I have one of the 2 ton ones - bought for use with the cars, but you find other uses once you've got one!
If you need a smaller hook then plenty on ebay etc.

Thanks paintman.
I'm definitely going ahead with this.
It's only for home use as it's trailered .

I had the same boat with an Evinrude engine. One way to get the motor on and off easier is to remove the lower leg taking off more than a few pounds. This can be done in less than 5 minutes and since the impeller is right there you would be ready to replace the impeller in the spring for it's yearly replacement. I wouldn't recommend it, but I did remove the lower leg once and then I grabbed the powerhead and removed it solo.

Otherwise I have a cherry picker that I routinely use, as I am always fixing something heavy/awkward.
