Mariner 4hp gearbox rebuild

Afternoon all, I casually said I’d service an outboard (belonged to their dad who’s recently passed away)

Outboard had been sat in brackish water, anode worn down to crumbs. Gearbox oil milky, closer inspection shows water pump base corrosion which I’m assuming has been letting in water.

Water pipe was corroded through.

Do not sit your outboard in sea water and definitely not without an anode!!

So I’m not at my limit but my tools and know how are.

Bearing is rusted, water pump base to replace. Water seals to replace.

Long ramble short is there anyone/company out there who might do a rebuild.

Not sure on value of outboard, it’s 2006 and top end seems good. Power head off next to change water pipe. I’m £100 on parts so far

Second hand gearbox might be easier? Still not cheap though... nothing's cheap about boating of course once parts are needed. And there has to be a limit to this or you could easily exceed the OBs value.

Water pump base is £40 used on eBay, bearing maybe the same new. Other seals might be another£50? Adds up doesn’t it.

Currently have the power head off, channels clean and new water intake pipe in. Casting cleaned for new gasket and reassemble next.

Need to get this done and return living room to usual standard free of oil and petrol smells [emoji2]
