Mariner 50HP Stator...

Wheres the cheapest place to pick one of these up, its a 1992 model I believe, I don't really want to pay dealer prices this end of the season as its not going to get much more use before next year.

It's a '93 model-engine build sticker '92 but I think that type weren't released til '93(if you ask for '92 you'll probably end up being given a clamshell stator and I'm not sure if they are the same.)
It's the same stator as the 40hp,50hp and 60hp 3 cylinder mercurys and mariners with that shape cowl.

What happened?

I think your right 1992 would be a clamshell, so it must be a 1993.
The stators packed up, just going up the river and it stopped about a month ago, I just thought it would be the wiring to the kill cord as thats the usual suspect but I checked all that and it was fine. Got my marine engineer round and he diagnosed it as a failed stator.
Was just wondering if anyone had one kicking about I could buy from them, if I have to buy a new one I won't bother until early next season as its unlikely to get used before then and im broke at the moment!

Are you sure it's not just the CDI fuse gone furry? It shouldn't just stop dead. I'd expect some misfiring at least.

Fuse is fine.. he had his spare stator with him and put that on and it ran, he also ran the Mercury diagnostics on it and it all led to the stator. Odd thing to go I thought though.
