mariner 60hp not pumping water

hi my friend has a 1987 mariner 60hp which is not pumping water, i have changed the impeller which was in a very bad way(worst i have ever seen) so at some point it has been run dry (i think),so i thought that was it but still no water pumping so i took the power head off to see if any of the old impeller was blocked and the plastic housing which the copper water pipe sits in had melted, so i changed this and still no water pumping, ive checked everything and nothing is blocked can anyone help!!!!!

use compressed air to blast it back through, start at the tell tail and work your way back. i'd pull the lower unit off to see what comes out

did you replace the impeller housing? With the gear box off can you turn the drive shaft by hand to see if the impeller actually turns?

sometimes the impeller doesent locate on the ...if fitted [woodruff key ,small peg or dowell or keyway ] onto the shaft .ie the shaft turns but not the impeller ,make sure that it locates tight as a lot of these corrode or rust away or the bit whats left is not large enough to lock into the impeller under fast turnover .another problem could be the top and bottom plates of the pump could be scored or worn alowing pressure to drop ,.impellers wear not only on the blade tips but on the top and bottoms edges too,.. also the grommet where the pipe fits into the power head could be split or perished . regards mart.
