Mariner 6E0 gearbox

I've just picked up an old mariner (Yamaha ) 4hp.
What is this hole for? It's leaking gear oil from it and also letting water in. It's on the other side to the drain screws.

Its a weep hole but highly likely the seal area in the box is rotted away & nothing left for the seals to sit in. Its very common for those boxes to be corroded away to nothing in that area

Scrap or repairable?
There's nothing showing up on the exploded parts diagram.

Might just be the gasket under the waterpump that’s out of shape due to salt build up.

I started a thread October 21 re milky gear oil in a 5hp Yamaha 2 stroke
It was suggested that the 2 seals should be opposite to each other but then I found a parts diagram showing them fitted in the same direction.
Anyway, today I stripped the gearbox again and managed to remove the top seal of the drive shaft and refit it in reverse.
I've had it running for half an hour. There is no loss of oil and it's still perfectly clear so, , tomorrow I'm going to try it out
