Mariner 8hp 2smoke

I am trying to find out what the serial # 677s005380 means on this engine. And any ideas for a manual for gearbox oil and plug settings. I have tried putting it in marineengine.com but it says it cant find it. I have managed to narrow it down but this ser # doesn't seem to add up.

How about this from a delve around I've done...

677 S XXXXXX

677 - is the Yamaha model number - this is a Yamaha built for Mariner which was copied from Yamaha's own model 8B (model code 677) which was built in the late 1970's
S - short shaft
XXXXXX - the actual serial number

Probably very early 80s

Does that make sense for what you think it is?

Total sense Fenlander, thanks. On all the proprietary sites it says made in: BEL or US (Belgium or USA) But now you have opened the proverbial Mariners are Yamaha's argument on my "plate" it does say Mariner JAPAN!
Thank you so so much

That's good. I had a Mariner 20 (or 25 I forget now) of that era, also made in Japan, it was a great engine and still running well when I sold it at about 25yrs old.

It seems a good buy. I have managed to order the correct impeller but not the right plugs. Back online to order the correct ones now. Still need to find a manual and looked at the "manual" thread on here but to no avail. Will have a search tomorrow. Thanks again and God bless.

I still think Mariners are better than Yams!
