Mariner Marathon
Hi,
I have just purchased a Mariner Marathon 25 in which i hope to upgrade to a 30 to give my inflatable a bit more grunt.
Question: what is the difference between the Marathon and a normal Mariner, is it a commercial variant and if so, what has been beefed up?
Thanks

It is a commercial engine. My 15 is based on a Yamaha and it the heaviest 15hp out I've ever had to carry.
I'm not sure what the difference is, I know the engines were meant to deal with more hostile environments. Could be beefed up water pump etc?
Mines be faultless and starts everytime, best engine I've had.
Turbodiesel on here might be able to help?

I think they're pretty much a normal motor but the lower end is different and they swing a bigger prop. Good for pushing heavy loads - eg. a canal boat or work boat.

Now have the Marathon and have spent a few hours trying to convert it back to tiller operated however i have discovered i am a linkage missinq.
Does anyone know of a dealer that carries comprehensive spares as i was hoping to try it out at the weekend. Tried locally but they will have to order in.
Also where can i get a technical manual and parts list? Willing to pay if anyone has spare.
Thanks

Ring EP Barrus and ask for the marine technical section, the lads there are really helpful.

Spoke to a top bloke called "Uncle Al", really helpful. Most of the parts are not available in UK so they have to be ordered through Belgium. Only other option is to locate a engine that is being broken for spares.......anyone?
Cheers

I had problems getting hold of parts to convert my Belgian Mariner 15 to tiller control a little while ago. I got the parts from the states in the end, worked out cheaper than getting from the UK.
Stuart from Seaworthy Marine might be able to help you out, I've had parts from him in the past (he couldn't help me out with the tiller, but advised to get parts off the internet, rather than buy new through him as it would be cheaper!). He's not far from you either.

Now have all the parts required however how bl**dy difficult is it to connect the tiller linkage?
Can any technical guru advise me as to what position the throttle handle should be when connecting as i have tried but do not get the full movement of the throttle.
Is this me being a total balloon head?
Please help.

You'll only get full movement in gear, in neutral the throttle should hit a syop so you don't over rev it.

Still no good,
The tiller pinions can only line up in one position. The linkage is hitting the cylinder block thus preventing full throttle movement.
Any other suggestions, it has got to be something straight forward? Don't want to take it to a dealer just yet.
Cheers

All sorted mate. The previous owner / shop i bought the engine had put the tiller shaft pinion wheel on upside down. Bl**dy annoying though cos i have wasted all afternoon but wouldn't be beaten.
Thanks mate

Least you never paid anyone to tell you that.
Does it have reduced revs in neutral?

Haven't had chance to start it yet. Got to advance the timing by 5 degrees, will try that tomorrow.
