Measure your 4-6 hp engine for me please
Could anybody with a 4 to 6hp 4 stroke engine do me a favour please....
I'm getting the Vipermax built without the rear-facing lip on the transom so I can put an aux engine on the transom, but a snag has come up in that the original engine I was going to get (Mariner 4hp with the Sailmate high thrust prop) apparently can only fit over a transom that is about 55mm thick while according to both Downhilldai here http://www.rib.net/forum/showthread.php?t=35480 and Roy Bishop measuring his own boat, the transom on the Vipermax is 60mm thick.
There is a bit of a questionmark over this as I have seen photos of what appears to be a Mercury 4hp fitted onto a Vipermax, see attached, so can anybody measure either a Merc or Mariner engine and double check the inside measurement of the bracket please? I'm not sure whose boat this is now, to ask them what the engine is or whether it was modified to allow it to fit.
Meanwhile if anybody with a 4, 5 or 6hp would be kind enough to open the saddle clamp right up and tell me how thick a transom could be hammered in there, that would be appreciated I'm still keen on the Sailmate engine because of the high thrust prop but really don't want to order something that doesn't fit....
Many thanks

(It's also for sale, for any viewers to this post)

<Bump>
Does anybody else have measurements or info on any engines with a 60mm saddle please?
OR any info on the Vmax pictured above and how the Merc 4hp which shouldn't fit, was fitted?
Ta

Jono Garton and/or Ian Sharlot rigged that Vipermax in the pics and should be able to advise you how they got the aux to fit.
I reckon they may have replaced the cups on the transom screws with something flat.

I could never get an answer out of Jono either on here or by email when I was looking for RIB prices, anybody know how to contact him or have contact details for Ian (is he on RIBnet?)
However it did give me an idea and I looked at the post Jono put up ages ago with all the photos of that boat and from the attached, if you assume the A frame tube is 50mm which I think is correct (?) then the transom looks to be thicker than that so would assume probably the standard 60mm so it must have been a mod to the motor not the boat - DHD I think you are probably right. I've had mine built without the lip so maybe just need to do a slight mod to the motor.
Does anybody know who owns that boat now? I'd like to get a decent photo of what has been done if I could, I seem to remember it was for sale a while back.

I don't think he's selling boats anymore. You'll find his details here: http://www.jgmarineservices.co.uk/Co...ontact_Us.html

Thanks - I'll try and get hold of Ian see if he remembers that boat. Is it now owned by a RIBnet member?
The Sailmate engine seems to be available everywhere in the Mariner version with the nasty "unpainted Airfix grey" cowling, and nowhere as the Merc version with the black cowl. Got somebody who is looking into swapping the cowling over so that will sort that out

Ian doesn't remember so I will have to chance ordering it and see if I can work something out... it's obviously possible somehow though.

The Mariner cowls are painted - a metallic silver finish.

I know - it just reminds me of the colour of airfix model aeroplanes I used to make as a kid and then could never be bothered to paint
Anyway I found a helpful supplier that will sell me a Mariner engine but swap the cowl for a Merc one so that is sorted out
