Merc 150 (2016) not starting

When trying to start engine does not crank. I get the usual beep when turning ignition on, and can hear the solenoid clicking but starter motor does not spin.

(Battery good, kill cord in, gear in neutral)

Guessing starter motor is bad?

Thoughts?

Thx

Have you tried to put power direct to the starter?

Check the prop by hand will it spin? I’ve had the cables shift so it was still in gear

Check the battery voltage at the starter side of the solenoid with the solenoid engaged. It should be virtually the same as at the battery. Give or take a couple of mV.

What do you base your statement 'battery good' on?

Has the battery been fully charged with a battery charger & have you rechecked using a known good fully charged battery?
A very rough guide to battery state - bearing in mind a recently charged battery needs to be allowed to stand.

Check & clean all terminals - if the battery terminal clamps are the type with screws holding the cables in then remove & clean the cable ends as surface corrosion on the cable ends can stop full voltage being supplied. Guess how I know that one. They're rubbish & need to be replaced.

If solenoid is clicking it's not a kill switch / neutral switch issue.
Get a good voltmeter and work through the system from battery to starter - it's very likely a voltage drop issue somewhere - others have pointed out several likely candidates (including "clamp on cable" battery terminals...which belong in the skip). Don't rule out corrosion within the main battery cables themselves. Rule out the simple stuff before looking at the more complicated & expensive stuff like a solenoid or starter fault.
Don't forget to keep us posted with what you find

Easiest diagnostic is to have someone turn the key to the start position and hold, then rap on the starter motor with a solid object. If it starts cranking replace the starter (Good idea to do the solenoid at the same time). If it doesn't, get out the DVOM and begin testing voltages, starting at the solenoid.
