merc 150 4 stroke prices

hey peeps,

I am considering putting one of these on a new rib. i fancy fitting it all myself as i enjoyed rigging them up in the past. probably going on a ribcraft 6.4 at this stage.

i seen a thread a few weeks ago with someone who found good deals....i can't find it via searching.

failing that, anywhere worth looking into?

cheers

If you want a warranty I don't think you can DIY

My trusted mechanic is Winsor Marine and they should be able to advise.

You may be able to rig it yourself but will need a PDI from a main dealer to be eligible for the warranty. I suggest contacting your local main dealer and asking a question.

Could be a tad underpowered for a 6.4 RC as heavy layup.. 200 would be better!!
Rig yourself Dealer to PDI... Mine was pre PDI'D before I picked it up!

The Max rating is 175, 150 should be ample.

Ok, Ribcraft is rated to 150 (i THINK) which is a lighter craft the the 6.4. Worth asking RC what they will actually take.
I have NO experience in the 6.4 or the 150/200 but it does sound a tad underpowered..

You can order it with a sooz 140 or 175, I don't want either.

The rc site says 175hp Max and 90 min for the 6.4. The difference with a merc 150 and a sooz 175 is circa 3k street prices, too much for comfort for me.

If the sooz was decent money I'd consider it but it is OTT for me.

appreciate the applies either way.

cheers

Not sure about the 150 but I've just taken delivery of a 115 for fitting myself. Best price I found was BMC, who quoted less than their internet price by a few hundred pounds. Service so far has been very good too.

The engine is big and very shiny. I am part way through fitting but still need to hang the engine and fit the smartcraft sensors.

I would agree with Phill & Callums advice, Give Laurence Lock at Barnet Marine a call. He can get great deals on Mercury outboards & can have them pdi inspected & then re-crated and shipped out to you, to fit yourself. Good to deal with & very quick turnaround times

So you don't want a Suzuki because of the additional cost. The total cost of a new package is say £30k so going for the suzukii is going to add 10% of which you will probably get half that back in resale value. As clam chowder says when looking for used boats you are looking for the max power. Having searched the used market and discussed with sellers as well as users the number of times it was said 'I wished I had a bigger engine' was frequent.

One of my criteria when I bought my used RC585 was being able to sell it easily and without loosing too much money. I was lucky and have got a great set up with a 140hp Suzuki. We live just around the corner from Degandjo who have the new Ribquest 6.5 super sport and have also been out with them a couple of times. They run a 175 Suzuki. There top speed is 3 or 4 knots faster than us and we have managed 42 with the wind. Fuel consumption is very similar on a day out with optimum at 3500rpm with a cruising speed of 20 to 25 knots

What a shame if you spent all that money and came to regret it. I know what I would try and do!

Oh by the way that got me thinking how many rc585 with 140s are posting on here?

How does he check installation is correct, as in fuel lines, cable adjustment, steering, mounting bolts etc?

I have made enquiries about this, it isn't a problem to have it PDI'd.

The only exception to that is redbay will not sell a boat without them fitting it, which is cool.

As for the suzuki prices versus the price of the boat. yes ideally i would like the max HP (which is 200) but the 175 is a heavy lump, be better with a 200hp these days.

cheers
