merc/mariner 100hp 4 stroke rev counter

hi all,

i had my seasons first wee outing to loch lomond last weekend. i couldn't get the boat serviced in time so i checked oils etc and went for it. i only done 10 hours since last service so i figured why not!

couple of issues need help with-

1. the rev counter has started going off the scale. i assume it is a dirty connector but i have no idea where it connects to the engine to check :-) any suggestions?

2. at about 1/4 throttle the engine started to misfire like was on 1 cylinder. it only lasted for maybe 5 seconds twice within 1 min and it was fine the rest of the day. i'm not sure if i had something round prop or it did mis-fire. my todo list is obviously the service so hopefully changes filters and new plugs is all it needs...........i hope so anyway as it is an EFI model so the thought of injector/pump doesn't bare thinking about.

cheers

The tacho plugs into the small cable which comes out of the control box. It's a rubber waterproof plug & socket.

when fuel stand in a carburettor for a while it will start growing a fungus [ looks like jelly] that could have been with the backfire , it could be the auto choke got stuck as I had that problem but as soon as the engine was warm it sorted itself out , have you checked the plugs ,
