Merc Top mount seals

As the rebuild progresses, I find another PITA small problem. In summary, I have stiripped the leg, cleaned all the AV mounts and replaced the rubber bits from a donor leg, apart form two annoying seals on the top mounts.

They are glued to the case, and although I have a donor leg to practice on (came "free" with the PT unit) it would be safe to say I dout I'm going to get these seals out without damaging the paintwork.

So, two questions:
- anyone used something lime Gun Gum to seal the cracks in the rubber successfully?
- Anyone know what type of glue Merc used? (in the hope I can use solvent to remove the old ones to replace with new)
