Mercury 15hp 2-stroke spark plug type & gap

Is there anyone running a 2000-2006 model Mercury 15hp 2-stroke who could tell me what the correct spark plug fitment and gap should be.

I guess the identical Mariner would have the same??

BPZ8HS-15 is the standard replacement now with 1.5mm gap. The earlier plug was 1mm.

Ahh thanks Max.. that's what's in it now so just checking they were the correct ones before ordering a couple of new sets.

Remember some weeks ago I said "one thing for certain I don't want to be lugging a 15hp about"? I've sort of accidentally bought another outfit with the same Mercury as yours!

Best 15 out there I think David! Lightest, brilliant tilt mech, lovely build and tiller gear change - I'm a total convert.

What boat is it attached to??!

Well remember in the same "conversation" you said with our current needs I'd described probably the best thing was a Zodiac 340 air floor like the one you had? It's the 3.4m Acti-V version of that from 2004 I've bought.... so almost identical to yours except it has the connected HP keel.

Interestingly despite it's close family connection to our problematical 360 Fastroller in its 10yr life this one shows none of the issues seen in our brand new 360.

Can you remember off hand if one 237ml tube of lower unit oil is enough for the Mercury?

Well done! Re' oil, dont' no - I just use a syringe topped up with a bigger container.

If you search my profile stats for topics started one of them is a request for the Mercury manual and in the topic are links to the consumer and workshop versions.

Ahh thanks for that it would have been one of my next questions. The Mariner 15 I sold on had its original manual but there isn't one with this Mercury.

Just general lubrication, plugs, fuel filter and gear oil to do now for what's left of the season then I'll do the impellor as part of the winter layup.

Ahh yes found the big manual on this link in your thread...

Boatinfo - Mercury Service Manual for 6-8-9,9-10-15 hp

Now that's *really* useful.

Thanks.

BTW if anyone in the future picked up on me wondering a few posts above if a 237ml tube of gear oil is enough for a Mercury/Mariner 15... it is. The lower unit capacity is 200ml.

Still might get 1lit bottle with a pump though.
