Mercury 2006 2 Stroke Does it have a rev limter?

Does anyone know if the 2006 Mercury has a built in rev limiter i.e cut out if you over rev it.

I posted about mine over reving only to find I may have an incompatible rev counter.

On the back of the rev counter which switch setting should it be set to?

I looked it up on the net and it said 12 but mine doesnt have a 12 position?

Have I got a four stroke rev counter?

Any one able to shed any light?

The baot really flies and I thought I may need a higher pitch prop put have nothing to base the revs on, the rev counter works but goes off the scale 8000 plus rpm and thats at about half throttle.

Sounds like the switch for your tacho is at the wrong polarity setting. What size of Mercury 2-stroke is it?

I can't see you doing 8,000 revs at half throttle. Assuming you're running a 40HP to 60HP on your 4.5 metre boat, you should be looking at 5,500 to 6,000 RPM at WOT.

You need to ask for a revcounter for a 12 pole alternator.

Sorry should have said its a 60hp.

It is a 60hp 2006 Mercury 2 stroke, so is it definately a 12 pole rev counter I need, mine doesnt have a 12 setting.

Yes. Buy a quicksilver one-it'll work on almost anything.
