Mercury 20Hp advice

looking at buying this engine

Use would be on an Aerotec 380 or similiar not yet purchased boat. My question is - is this the same basically as the Yamaha 15HP/25HP that folk generally recommend? Engine is well priced so thinking of buying and storing till next year. If not the same as the Yamaha engine would it be considerably heavier or worse in anyway?

Advice as always most appreciated!

Its not a yamaha based engine, but theres nothing wrong with these engines, I had a 20hp Mariner version which was good, they are a detuned 25hp.

That engine looks to me like it has been resprayed with none original decals, so could be older than it appears in the photograph.

How well priced is it? Has the seller quoted an age for the engine?

quoting age of mid nineties which is probably about right, what kind of value would you put in one?

Mine was early nineties and I think I sold it for about £600 a couple of years ago.

No problem.

That engines a longshaft, so won't be suited to most inflatables.

Supposed to be a short shaft according to the add but does look a bit long in the pics! Will bring a tape measure if I go for a look later this week.

Definately a long, the gearbox on the shortshaft is just below the lower engine mount. See image.

I fear you are right, will have to pass. Cheers for the heads up on it, saved me a wasted trip.

£450 if anyone is looking for a long shaft!
