Mercury 4HP help needed!

Hi

I have a 4hp mercury ob that was running fine in the tank but in the sea died. So took it home and it ran fine in the tank again but thought I should clean the carb out in case something was floating around. Found some very fine grit/sand in the carb bowl, felt smug and put the carb back on. Engine started but it ran rough and eventually died and flooded. Have taken carb of and on several times and have not been able to get the thing to start again!!!

Tried utube for videos on the carbs but could not find anything.

Will let it dry out overnight but worried that the same issue may reappear in the sea. Very fresh 1998 model, I am the first to ever take the carb off and under the hood its all like new.

Any pointers?

After about 10 carb cleans and strips I also then changed the fuel and now seems to be working! Will know this week if sorted.
