Mercury 50 remote

Hi everyone, having problems with a Mercury 50 remote, after taking it apart to fit to boat and installation the safety lever that you need to pull up to select gear only needs to be pulled up to select forward and will go into reverse without any safeguard.
Not sure if I have missed anything out or put it back together incorrectly, obviously something is wrong. Can anybody give me any pointers as to what the problem is.
Cheers

do you mean the red lever under the fwd/rev handle? if you do there should be a horse shoe shaped piece of plastic that the red safety leaver should sit in when in neutral. i have seen them broken on one side so that the fwd/rev lever will slide straight into gear.

Thanks uncle al I will have a look tomorrow if I get time, I didn't look at that part when I assembled it as there was no need to or so I thought.

Thanks for that pointer to the part Uncle Al, it was indeed that red lift up lever, will try and order one, It looked as if it was wear rather than a break, would have thought it would have occurred on the forward side of movement rather than reverse
Thanks Andy
