Mercury 50hp efi problems

Hi ,
I hope somebody might be able to help with this problem. I have a 2004 Mercury 50hp efi and went out this morning with it ,started first time as usual and ticked over fine . After leaving the harbour throttled up lightly only for it to completely die. It would not restart as if there was a total lack of power, would not even turn over . I changed the battery for a spare and still no joy, noticed that while lifting the engine out to fit the spare the tilt was really struggling as if the power was running out.

We limped back in with a tow and have brought back both batteries only to find they are fully charged so it was not a battery problem, could it be loose connections or frayed wires.

Any advice would be gratefully appreciated before I start pulling it to bits.

Cheers ,
martin

Loose terminal. bad earth. its gonna be something obvious, first thing i would track back all the cables from the battery. check each inch for breakages up to solenoid, that where all yer power takes its detours
