Mercury Aresol painting or not

I realise there is a painting thread on the go and didn’t want to hijack it.

I need to touch up a small area on a 2002 Mercury outboard cowling; has anyone used the aerosols or can I but a 1/4 litre of Mercury paint for spraying. If so is there a paint code I can use with a local motor factor?

I personally don't like aerosols as they tend to spit.
Unfortunately I don't have any listings for obm in the sytems I use & a quick search of the net suggests its called Mercury 'Phantom Black' but I couldn't see a paint code.
Whether its a standard colour - eg RAL, BS, Pantone etc - or a colour specific to Mercury (& I suspect the latter) I have no idea.
If no-one else can help you could try the dealer & see what they say.

many years ago merc/mar issued a service buletin with all the paint codes on it.All dealers will have it either on their EPC or it will be on the hard drive of the computer that has the EPC on it.

I painted a tiller handle on a 2003 Mercury with standard Hammerite Black gloss, to my untrained amateur eye, it was a perfect match.

Not when they spit 'gobs' of paint.
