May be the tell tail is blocked? start it up in water then stick something small up the hole and try and clear it.

Have you had it running hot yet ? Some of Mercury/Mariner have thermostats that are very on or off. They dont put any water out until they get up to temperature and then they only run water through till they cool down.

I was also told that the thermostat won't let water through until it hits temperature but I don't know for certain! My waterstream seems hot on exit !

Just been out & fired mine up (2004 model) and it just dribbles when cold for a few minutes then when the thermostat opens a solid stream of quite warm water fires out, Wouldn't explain yours cutting out though !! It seems to be quite sensitive though as the flow does restrict periodically. I haven't run it at full chat on the water yet just in a tank but I suspect yours is similar.

I have the mariner variant(same) and it will only show water at the telltale when running in my test barrel when I have removed the prop.
might be that simple.

Remove the thermostat and start the engine. If no water comes out the top of the head, whoever fitted the gearbox back on has possibly missed the water pipe going back into the top of the waterpump. If water comes out head put the thermostat in hot water and see if it opens. No water will come out tell tale if thermostat is stuck on this model.

Luke, there's more issues there than pumping if it cut out twice. You need to take it to a pro.

Luke, I assume you paid someone to fit the impeller? In which case I would take it back to them and let them fix it. Whilst Davie (and others) advice on tracking down the problem is probably useful for someone who has experience - if you weren't confident about changing the impeller you really don't want to be debugging someone else's mistakes. If it is genuinely not pumping water - it wont take much time playing around trying to fix it before you completely ruin the engine. If it is cutting out too after a service then I would also be asking questions. A good marine engineer would happily take it back and run it up to show you if all is well when it warms up, but be knowledgable enough to deal with any problem before it damages itself.

Could also be when the impeller was fitted back on the drive shaft the tiny woodruff key or small metal dowl or peg that's fallen out of place or is too small for the slot on the new impeller hub .

I changed the impeller on my 15hp 2 stroke recently. I had not lined up the pipes properly so wasn't pumping properly. It was the first time I had done it and if you have some engineering skills it is quite straight forward to do and easier on the pocket. I hope you manage to get yours sorted.

I try the start it again today but it didn't start I haven't got much petrol in tank. I've spoke to person who fitted impeller and I'm poppin it back Tuesday he is goin to put the leg off and clean it out and see if that helps.
