Mercury Saltwater Series

Does anybody know what (if anything) is different about a Mercury Saltwater Series v's any other Mercury outboard, or is it just a name?

Seem to recall it just meant they were longshaft, I know it's been discussed here before and there was talk of larger bore cooling system etc but am sure that was ruled out.

Not aware of that, part no for a water pump housing is the same. I thought Saltwater was an XL or XXL.

I thought they just had a higher standard of anti corrosion treatment but were the same. Think they stopped in 2004 as all their outboards adopted those materials.
